Author Biography

Sharmila Basu Conger, Ph.D., joined the staff of WCET in September 2002. Dr. Conger’s project work at WCET has included examining venues for accreditation of Web-based courses and investigating barriers to adoption of online education. She has assisted in the planning and logistics of “Collaboration as Facilitator for Initiatives in Online Education,” a track of presentations at the 2004 Higher Learning Commission annual meeting, as well as three policy forums, on Financing IT in a Limited Resource Environment, Games in K-12 Education, and Open Educational Resources, respectively. Dr. Conger has also been active in WCET advocacy efforts, researching and writing about such issues as the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, the potential selling of ITFS spectrum to commercial entities, and the streaming audio and video patents claimed by Acacia Media Technologies. Prior to her tenure at WCET, Sharmila served as a staff scientist at the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS), where she was involved in multiple curriculum development and professional development projects for K-12 and higher education programs. Sharmila has a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  Dr.  Conger may be reached at sbconger@wcet.info.
