Abstract
Background. In this post-COVID digital age, nurse educators are incorporating new and different strategies to communicate with diverse learners. Texting is instant communication, enabling a real-time connection, yet research on texting from a nursing faculty and/or nursing student perspective is lacking.
Methods. A survey was used to compare faculty and student perceptions of texting related to their classwork/coursework. The sample was comprised of students and faculty in one postsecondary school of nursing offering online coursework for BSN, MSN, and doctoral degrees.
Results. Both faculty and students responded positively to sending and receiving text messages about classwork/coursework. Neither students nor faculty disliked texting or found it intrusive.
Conclusions. This study has shown that both students and faculty viewed the use of texting positively. There is the potential to use texting to develop timely and productive outreach and promote interactions between students and faculty.
